Shelby Bryant's music is a mix of rock pop with electronic ornaments. Wurst Music is a fun album, not to be taken seriously. Some of the tunes reminds me of old organ and vocal music from the fifties with a added pop twist. The kind of music you now find at thrift stores. I have the impression they are making fun out of these type of records. In its liner notes, Shelby Bryant tells us that music making is a group thing he likes to do with friends. There's certainly a party vibe, or more likely a “music around the campfire” vibe to the album. The varied collection of musical instruments used (old drum machines, organs, vocoders, guitars, acoustic drums, bass, samplers) and the lighthearted songs make the album a fun ride. Some of the tunes remind me of Electric President, which is a very good thing. Releasing the album on cassette only make the experience more enjoyable, it ads a touch of lo-fi aesthetic to the package. If you're into indie pop lo-fi tunes, I highly recommend that you at least check out the album (for free!) on their record label bandcamp page. I promise you won't be disappointed!
